Consider the fact that plastic doesn't bio-degrade. It's likely that every plastic toothbrush you have ever used, still exists on the Earth.

According to a recent UN report, "by 2050 oceans will carry more plastic than fish and an estimated 99 per cent of seabirds will have ingested plastic"

Majority of plastic is difficult to recycle and typically majority of plastic is burnt for energy, shipped off to Asia and eventually ends up in the ocean as evidenced by the plastic pollution epidemic.

So we're delighted when we found this Reusable Bamboo Toothbrush.

Unlike other bamboo toothbrushes on the market, this will have one of the smallest disposal footprints. Even the bristles are potentially recyclable*!

Every part of this tooth brush is plant-based: bristles, handle, wrapper, and box:

  • Soft bristles are made from a base of 62% castor bean oil and 38% plastic (bio-based and recyclable, but not biodegradable) and the bristles are made in USA
  • The handle is made from 100% bamboo (organic and wild – no pesticides or fertilizers)
  • The wrapper around the toothbrush is plant-based and commercially compostable
  • The box encasing the toothbrush is made from paper – no tape or glue is used

  • USDA Certified Bio-based
  • Green American Certified

  • Vegan
  • BPA-Free
  • The bristles are considered Medium, not soft

The American Dental Association recommends replacing your toothbrush every 3 months, or when the bristles have frayed

  • Your bamboo toothbrush can be used for just as long as plastic toothbrushes
  • The bamboo on the top portion of your toothbrush that goes in your mouth may begin to appear lighter and faded with use. This is normal! It will not affect your brushing experience.

  • * The bristles are not biodegradable but could be recyclable in your city, depends on your local recycling capabilities. The issue with recycling bristles is that they are very small and lightweight: curbside recycling will not work. You may be able to work out a solution by contacting your local recycling facility. But otherwise, the bristles will have to be landfilled (We know this isn't perfect but we feel we've made a step in the right direction reducing our plastic toothbrush footprint
  • Using pliers, it is easy to remove the bristles from the head. Doing so will also remove a small metal staple that is used to clamp the bristles to the handle
  • The handle can be reused or disposed of in a commercial composting bin and will safely return to the soil within 6 months

  • Adult brush
  • Smaller brush - 1" head and 6" handle - for kids or adults

We recommend minimum quantity of 2 to optimize on shipping. Plus, it's a great conversation piece with overnight guests, so you'll probably want more than 2!
