Care Instructions

Soft to the touch and chemical free, Blue Canoe products reflect the beauty, quality and lasting value that pure natural fibers provide. Our organic cotton fabrics are gentle yet durable. All of our clothing is pre-shrunk. We suggest gentle machine washing in cool water and cool tumble drying. Do not use bleach. Our clothing is crease resistant and travels beautifully. A cool iron is acceptable if needed.

Instructions for pre-washing:

For naturally dyed garments, the first 2-3 washings are very important and should be done with as much care as possible. While we pre-process and finish our fabrics as much as possible before final production, some of the natural dye materials may still wash off during the first 1-2 washings. While it is highly unlikely that any dye material will stain another garment, it is highly advisable that you wash your garment by itself during the first washings, and before wearing.

Regular wash instructions:

  • Turn garment inside out.
  • Cold wash on a delicate cycle with a mild detergent.
  • Wash separately and remove promptly.
  • Tumble dry on low or hang to dry in shade.
  • Do not bleach or dry clean.
  • Hot iron as desired.
  • Citrus juice may discolor fabric.
  • Colors may rub.
  • Natural dyes may fade gently over time or in direct sunlight.

Back to Organic Bedding

PLA fiber starts with an abundant, natural and renewable resource - plants. The starch gets isolated from the other components of the plant and gets turned into sugar. The sugar is fermented in a process similar to making yogurt, to create lactic acid. Lactic acid is a naturally occurring material that gives the "tang" to yogurt and makes your muscles ache after a work-out. From lactic acid a molecule called lactide is created. Water is then removed and it gets crystallized to create the high-performance polymer - polylactide (PLA).

PLA performs extremely well in the wash and is therefore offered as an alternative to organic cotton. Our PLA fiber does not off-gas harmful chemicals and maintains its resiliency through repeated washings.

About Organic Lifestyle

Organic Lifestyle was born in 2006 from the desire to make organic living affordable and accessible for everyone and build a socially responsible community that values the health and safety of every worker, consumer, and the planet.

Our mission is to offer better, healthier, and safer alternatives to you, your family, and your friends.

We do the research, talk to our suppliers, and learn from subject matter experts to curate certified organic, fair trade, sustainably produced products for your kids, your body, and your home.

We hope we make it easier for you to learn about the benefits of organic materials and keep the ones you love healthy and safe. We have carefully curated our Guided Product Tour to help you determine which products are right for you.

WHY REDUCE YOUR CHEMICAL EXPOSURE?

Dozens of everyday products found in our homes can offgas chemicals, few of which have been studied for their long-term effects. However, some of these chemicals have already been linked to the rising incidents of health issues, such as cancer, diabetes, asthma, Parkinson’s disease, reproductive issues, and allergies.

Harmful man-made chemicals have even been discovered in umbilical cords and indigenous people who live purely off the land. Many subject matter experts are justifiably concerned about the long-term health effects of our everyday exposure.

At Organic Lifestyle, we're motivated to reduce our potential toxic exposure and hopefully, empower you to make informed decisions.

We make sure our products are free from any nasty carcinogens, pesticides, flame retardants, off-gassing, harsh dyeing chemicals and other toxic substances like bisphenol and formaldehyde.

For example, we offer:
Organic mattresses that use wool as a natural flame-resistant textile instead of using fire retardant chemicals.
* Mattress covers that can significantly reduce mattress off-gassingbedbugs and dust mites.
Solid wood bedframes, without any offgassing wood, glues nor stains
Natural COVID19 Disinfectant
* How to improve air quality with Green building products
* How to reduce microplastics your washing machine produces

We also source directly from organizations that work with farmers and international certifying authorities to ensure that the highest organic standards are met.

Our goal is to significantly reduce your toxic chemical exposure in home and provide peace of mind.

SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE

We make environmentally sound choices whenever possible.

We:

* Buy our products from certified organic (GOTS, GOLS), fairtrade, and socially responsible vendors.
* Prioritize sourcing made in Canada
* Carry Oeko-tex certified products made with low-impact dyes that produce less water runoff in their manufacturing process.
* Carry products that reduce indoor pollution by not releasing Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) in your home.
* Offer less plastic packaging options and make sure to efficiently coordinate inbound shipments to reduce our carbon footprint
* We donate to various non-profit organizations and grassroots campaigns that work to protect the healthy environment, nature’s diversity and the well-being of our communities.

By investing in high-quality organic and hypoallergenic products you make a great positive impact on your health while supporting people and the planet.

Thank you for allowing us to be your guide in your search for the best chemical-free products that will benefit your health and the environment.
