Frequently Asked Questions

Will I pay duties or tariffs on my order from Canada to the USA?
Quick Answer:
Only if your order contains products made outside North America. Canadian-made products are duty-free.

It depends on whether your order contains CUSMA-qualifying products or not. The majority of our products are made in Canada and qualify for duty-free entry into the United States under the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA/USMCA). Orders containing only CUSMA-qualifying products will NOT be charged U.S. import duties or tariffs.

Do Americans pay customs fees when ordering from Canada?
Quick Answer:
Americans pay customs fees only on products not made in North America.

Americans do not pay customs fees on CUSMA-qualifying products from Canada. However, products sourced from outside North America are subject to a 35% tariff as of August 1, 2025. Whether you pay customs fees depends entirely on the origin of the products in your order.

What are CUSMA-qualifying products?
Quick Answer:
Products made or manufactured in Canada, the USA, or Mexico.

CUSMA-qualifying products are goods that meet the rules of origin under the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement. These are products that are wholly obtained, produced, or manufactured in Canada, the United States, or Mexico with sufficient North American content. We provide CUSMA certification of origin for all qualifying shipments to ensure duty-free clearance through U.S. customs.

What tariffs apply to products not made in North America?
Quick Answer:
35% U.S. tariff as of August 1, 2025.

Some of our products are sourced from outside North America and do not meet CUSMA rules of origin. As of August 1, 2025, these non-qualifying goods are subject to a 35% U.S. tariff when crossing the border from Canada into the United States. You will be responsible for paying these applicable import duties and tariffs at the time of delivery or customs clearance.

How do I know which products will have tariffs?
Quick Answer:
Check the product page for country of origin and CUSMA status, or Contact us.

We clearly identify each product's country of origin in our product descriptions. Look for this information on the product page before purchasing - if made in Canada, its CUSMA-compliant. If you're unsure whether your specific order will be subject to tariffs, please Contact us and we'll provide confirmation.

What happens if I order both CUSMA and non-CUSMA products together?
Quick Answer:
Tariffs apply only to the non-CUSMA items in your order.

If your order contains both CUSMA-qualifying and non-qualifying products, tariffs will only apply to the non-qualifying items. The duty-free benefit applies to the CUSMA-qualifying products, while the 35% tariff applies only to products sourced from outside North America. Each item is assessed separately by customs.

Who collects the tariffs and duties?
Quick Answer:
Your shipping carrier (UPS, FedEx, USPS) or customs broker.

The carrier (such as UPS, FedEx, or USPS) or a customs broker will collect these fees on behalf of U.S. Customs and Border Protection. You'll typically pay these charges at the time of delivery or receive a bill shortly after delivery. The exact process depends on your carrier.

Is there a minimum order value that avoids tariffs?
Quick Answer:
No. The $800 exemption was eliminated in August 2025.

No. As of August 29, 2025, the U.S. has eliminated the duty-free de minimis exemption for shipments from Canada valued at US$800 or less. All commercial shipments now require proper customs clearance and payment of applicable duties on non-CUSMA products, regardless of the order value.

Will I pay import duties on products shipped from Canada?
Quick Answer:
Not if they're made in Canada.

The type of product (organic, conventional, etc.) doesn't determine tariffs. What matters is where the product was made or manufactured. Products made in Canada qualify for duty-free entry under CUSMA. Products sourced from outside North America are subject to the 35% tariff.

Do Canadian customers pay duties or taxes?
Quick Answer:
Canadian customers may pay GST/HST and provincial taxes.

Canadian customers may be responsible for GST/HST and any applicable provincial taxes on orders as determined by Canadian customs regulations, regardless of where the products originate. This applies to both domestic and imported goods. Taxes are calculated based on the destination province.

Can tariff rates change?
Quick Answer:
Yes. Tariff rates can change based on government trade policies.

Yes. Customs regulations and tariff rates are subject to change based on government trade policies. While we strive to provide accurate and current information, final duty assessments are always determined by the customs authority of the destination country. We recommend checking with us before placing large orders if you have concerns about potential tariff costs.

How can I avoid surprise charges at delivery?
Quick Answer:
Contact us before ordering to confirm tariff implications.

We hope we make it easier for you to learn about the benefits of organic materials and keep the ones you love healthy and safe. We have carefully curated our Guided Product Tour to help you determine which products are right for you.

WHY REDUCE YOUR CHEMICAL EXPOSURE?

Dozens of everyday products found in our homes can offgas chemicals, few of which have been studied for their long-term effects. However, some of these chemicals have already been linked to the rising incidents of health issues, such as cancer, diabetes, asthma, Parkinson’s disease, reproductive issues, and allergies.

Harmful man-made chemicals have even been discovered in umbilical cords and indigenous people who live purely off the land. Many subject matter experts are justifiably concerned about the long-term health effects of our everyday exposure.

At Organic Lifestyle, we're motivated to reduce our potential toxic exposure and hopefully, empower you to make informed decisions.

We make sure our products are free from any nasty carcinogens, pesticides, flame retardants, off-gassing, harsh dyeing chemicals and other toxic substances like bisphenol and formaldehyde.

For example, we offer:
Organic mattresses that use wool as a natural flame-resistant textile instead of using fire retardant chemicals.
* Mattress covers that can significantly reduce mattress off-gassingbedbugs and dust mites.
Solid wood bedframes, without any offgassing wood, glues nor stains
Natural COVID19 Disinfectant
* How to improve air quality with Green building products
* How to reduce microplastics your washing machine produces

We also source directly from organizations that work with farmers and international certifying authorities to ensure that the highest organic standards are met.

Our goal is to significantly reduce your toxic chemical exposure in home and provide peace of mind.

SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE

We make environmentally sound choices whenever possible.

We:

* Buy our products from certified organic (GOTS, GOLS), fairtrade, and socially responsible vendors.

* Carry Oeko-tex certified products made with low-impact dyes that produce less water runoff in their manufacturing process.
* Carry products that reduce indoor pollution by not releasing Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) in your home.
* Offer less plastic packaging options and make sure to efficiently coordinate inbound shipments to reduce our carbon footprint
* We donate to various non-profit organizations and grassroots campaigns that work to protect the healthy environment, nature’s diversity and the well-being of our communities.
